Your email marketing efforts need a makeover, especially if you want to keep the attention of your subscribers. Through this “makeover”, you’ll create stronger loyalty, increase your commissions, and drive more traffic to your blog. In this post I’m going to show you the 3 things you can do to spice things up a bit. The points I will cover are:
- Create a better welcome email
- Give your readers a tutorial
- Recommend inexpensive books and products
Let’s begin

1. Create a better welcome email
The first email is very important. This is where a lot of bloggers foul up and lose subscribers. This is your opportunity to tell your story, your purpose and what you can do for them. First impressions are big here. Include the following:
- Your story
- Your picture
- Site logo
- Links to your pillar content
- Affiliate disclosure
Don’t be hesitant to share your story. No story is insignificant. Drill the WIIFM (what’s in it for me) mentality into your head. Make your new subscribers feel welcome and good about the decision they’ve made. Readers like honesty and they’ll respect you when you tell them you’re an affiliate for some of the products and services you recommend to them. They’ll understand if you communicate it in a way that they’ll benefit.
2. Give your readers a tutorial
You’ve got to mix it up. Many bloggers just stick with emailing their list emails. It gets tiresome after a while. Keep their attention by providing information in a variety of ways. It’ll help you to know that readers learn in different ways; some are textual learners, while others are audio or visual. By adding a tutorial you reach out to people you wouldn’t normally reach. One of the best tutorials you can do is a “behind the scenes” type of video where you show your readers how to use a product and what it’s like.
3. Recommend inexpensive books and products
While no one likes to be sold, recommending products under $10 is a great way to pick up a steady flow of passive income. Studies have shown that people are more than willing to buy a $7 product than they are a $47 product. Make sure you’re being honest here. Don’t recommend products or books that you personally haven’t read or personally used. Along with that, awful products make people unsubscribe faster than anything. Recommend good stuff that will actually help them.
