One of the most flexible and powerful platforms for blogging is the WordPress platform. This has become very popular and many bloggers now prefer this platform over others. However, it is first of all necessary to explain for those who have no experience with this form of blogging that there are two “systems” within WordPress blogging:
WordPress.com and WordPress.org. Both are closely related but have important differences that you should weigh before choosing one or the other.
Post on WordPress.com: WordPress.com is a website where you create a user account and can put your blog on a WordPress platform. You can have one or more WordPress blogs.
Advantages: cost is free, does not require any external hosting support, you don╒t need to own a domain name, you don╒t have to install anything, and it creates the blog in seconds. You can explore the WordPress platform safely for WordPress blogging.
Disadvantages: uses a subdomain as your blog name, (ex. nombre.wordpress.com) you can not monetize placing adsense and other advertising types, some (there are many) widgets provide some extra functions that can not be installed.
Post a WordPress.org blog using WordPress:
- This is the free version of WordPress. The official WordPress site is wordpress.org. On this you will find discussion forums, a list of free widgets, themes for your blog, and the very program that allows you to install WordPress as your own blog publishing platform.
To publish a WordPress blog using the self hosted , you will need:
- The most essential is a server that allows you to host it. There are hosting servers, also called hosting, that are free and a simple search on the internet you will find them. Be advised, there are also payments, meaning that you need to pay an amount of money in order to have a place to host your WordPress blog. In both cases, you will appreciate the space you get, your traffic available per month, the number of sites that can put (blogs) installation tools, blogs with one click, access to cPanel, FTP, etc.
- Optional but strongly recommended, a domain name. Obtaining a domain name can be in the done through name providers such as GoDaddy or NameCheap. The procedure involves opening an account with any domain name provider and paying the amount of money required, which varies depending on the domain name. Obviously there are some who can offer free domain names like co.cc or co.tv among others, but they are actually nombre.co.cc or nombre.co.tv like domains. Type domains. Com. Org. Net and others will be acquired for a period of time, usually annually, after which you can renew to continue using them, or you can also transfer them or sell them to a third party.
When you have your hosting and have a domain name associated with it, you can start a WordPress blogging type. Then you must first install your WordPress publishing platform, (the program will need to install WordPress). Many hosting services offer you the chance to install this platform with a single click, using a program called Fantastico script installation or similar. In any case, one click and you have installed your WordPress blog publishing platform type associated with your domain name. It’s time you start to personalize your blog using all existing widgets and themes for this platform.
Keep in mind that 43% of all sites on the internet are self-hosted WordPress blogs.
Advantages: flexibility, greater freedom over the content, power, ability to monetize the site published under a domain name that is yours.
Disadvantages: You need hosting, and usually need a domain name itself.
