In our day of growing concerns about cyber security, it’s smart to think of ways that you can protect yourself from hackers, viruses, and spyware. Spyware is of particular interest, and it is created with a variety of purposes that potentially infringe on the privacy of users and customers.
The Malware and Spyware Threat
Malware and spyware are running rampant on the internet today. Not only is it a threat for your personal computer but it can also track all of your activities online, including your shopping and browsing habits, your interactions with others on social media, and much more.
The problem has occurred for a variety of reasons including a need for bigger data to improve individual platforms, as well as advertising and research goals. However, there is a point in which too much information is floating around about your online behavior, and it gets in the hands of people who have no business capturing your data.
They can use it against you in some cases and make assumptions that cannot be proven but which are implied by searches, interactions, and comments that you make on social media, YouTube, and other locations.
This is scary. But there are some things you can do to protect yourself and your data. In this post, we’ll look at these concerns and what you can do to delete your Google search history and other things you can do to protect your data from getting into the wrong hands.
The Easiest and Quickest Way to Complete a Full History Clean
As someone who browses the internet quite frequently, you’ve probably heard all of the horror stories about how every website or blog you visit places a tracking pixel or cookie on your computer. This allows them to track the sites you visit and potentially view your browser history and see other sites you’ve visited as well.
You may also be aware that Internet Explorer, Safari and Google Chrome all make it pretty easy to go to FILE > History > Clear Browsing History. But what you probably don’t know is that there is still a bunch of junk sitting on your computer left by these companies–many of which can still be harmful to your computer and personal information.
A better solution is to rely on a quick and easy software solution like CleanMyMac X from MacPaw. To learn more about the solution, be sure to watch the short video below.

Now that we covered a better solution for why and how to remove harmful tracking pixels and cookies that might be on your computer, let’s move on to the importance of user privacy and how information is being used by different companies that might be tracking your online browsing.
The Need for Privacy
In addition to malware and spyware, there are concerns that others can hack into your Gmail account and get information about you that you don’t want others to know. While people know that they are sharing information online when they get an online website, blog, or other assets, they should expect a certain amount of privacy that no one should be able to breach.
That being said, it’s important for people to realize that they must take an active role in creating their privacy with all of the platforms that they are on. This can be achieved by going into the settings of the platform that you are using and making some changes in what people can view about you or your business. This is also why more people are moving towards getting set up with their own VPN providers to screen their online browsing.
One of the ways that tracking software and individuals can learn more about you is to track your behavior online. This includes your search history and viewing history.
To control what people see about your browsing and search history, you should go into Google and delete your search history so that you can control what people see.

How to Download Your Google History
To download your Google history, follow these steps:
Step 1: Sign into Google.
Step 2: View your Web & App activity.
Step 3: Click the cog icon in the top right corner of the page and select “download.”
Step 4: Click “create an archive.”
Step 5: Wait for the email from Google that notifies you that your archive is ready to download. You can choose to download the list as a zip file of JSON files to your computer or view the archive in the “take out folder” of your Google Drive.
Deleting Specific Search Items
If you just want to delete individual search items, you can search for specific time periods or search items, including searches from mobile or tablets. This gives you control over what searches you want to keep and which ones you want to delete.
Remember though that, just because a user deletes his or her search history does not mean that it disappears completely.
One you do delete searches, you’ll get a notice that says, “searches are no longer associated with your Google account.” But the company adds, “Google may store activity separately to prevent spam and abuse and to improve our services.”
Google is the largest and most powerful search engine on the internet. In addition to this, they own a large number of web properties such as YouTube, Blogger.com, and other platforms that allow you to do great things on the web.
Because they own so many properties and control the most popular search engine, they make the rules. But you can protect yourself to some degree by going through the process of periodically deleting your web search history or putting limits on what others can see on your Google Plus profile.
Other ways to protect your privacy
Once you have deleted your Google search history, make sure you make your search history readable by only you. This is a great way to ensure that only you can find your search history. Go to https://plus.google.com/settings to change your Google privacy settings. You can delete your search and browsing history here, as well as reset your privacy settings.
If you go to https://myaccount.google.com/activitycontrols you will be able to control various types of activity that you perform on your Google devices.
Google is a complex system and platform. It allows you to do a great number of activities that will help you to locate information that you need to help improve your business and your life. But the more you do, the more digital footprints you will leave for others to find. If you want to limit what people see and how this information might be shared, you need to become aware of how their system works and follow our tips to limit the data.
Don’t let the technology control you!
Technology is a tool for our lives. But what you don’t want is for it to take over your life or control what is shown to others. AI and automated systems run many systems on their own. The default is usually to openly share information with others because of the way that Google is set up to work across platforms and devices.
But it is your right to control what information is available. Take the steps you need to protect yourself by tweaking your settings. Never assume that the default settings will protect you. When you sign up for any service such as Google, make sure you read the contract and know what the default settings are.
The only way to avoid having some of your data shared is to avoid being on Google at all. But that is a near impossibility due to the importance of their tools such as Google Drive, Gmail, and others. Just take the steps you need to protect your data so that you will keep the control at the top.
